Celina Gherghelas took up singing when she was 17. In Bucharest, she got the first prize in the „Praise Song to Romania” (Cantarea Romaniei) Festival. Then she didn’t enter any other festival for some time. In 1979, she left Bucharest, with her family, and headed to Botosani. In a few years’ time, namely in 1989, she started her activity with the Datina Ensemble, where she worked as a collaborator for 15 years. In 1992 she graduated from the Popular Arts School, under the coordination of the teacher Maria Tronciu.
