Elena Mandrescu was born on June 6, 1962, in Ungureni. Her parents decided to move to the city in order to offer their daughter, who was already showing skills for folk music, an opportunity to study canto music as well as to get in contact with the artists of those times. Back in Botosani, Elena Mandrescu attended the Popular Arts School, but she never lost touch with the village, with its traditions and the the beauty of the genuine folk art.
