Uspenia Church was also built upon the urge of Lady Elena, wife of Petru Rares. It might be because of this church that Botosani City became known as „the city of the Lady”. A school used to function in a building within the church area around 1793. On January 21st, 1850, it was in this church that the national Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu was baptized. In 1872, the first public clock of the city was installed in the steeple of this church.
