Ruxandra Sofian (1827-1896) got reknown in Botosani during the harsh times of the Independence War of 1877-1878, when she took the action of the action of raising funds for the wounded Romanian soldiers. Ruxandra Sofian worked for Botosani Ladies Society, as a member of the Executive Committee. Regina Elisabeta (Queen Elizabeth) was the president of the Botosani Ladies Society. Neculai Sofian (1812-1900) was a great philanthropist of Botosani, some of his actions still persist today: the beautiful architectural jewel of the city, „Sofian House”.
